Press on the flush handle to let most of the water out into the bowl.

How to fix a wobbly toilet handle. Now that the water supply is off, no more water should flow in to refill your tank. When the handle is depressed, a chain or lift wire connected to the handle rod lifts the flapper away from the valve seat and allows the water to flush down out of the tank and into the toilet bowl. Empty the water in the toilet the first thing before removing the toilet is to pour out the water or stop the flow of water.

Now, try out your new toilet handle. Before starting to fix your toilet handle, you should check if the problem is with the handle or not. The toilet leaks at the base and/or it’s loose to the floor.

Spot a wax ring on the spine opening, drop the toilet and push down on the bowl to pack the wax. When you’re done, turn the toilet water supply line back on and flush several times. Remove the toilet tank cover.

If the flapper doesn’t lift enough, you may need to adjust where the chain’s clip is by moving it up or down on the chain. Then, doing a turn or two a side, alternate tightening the nuts until the toilet is firmly pressed to the floor. There will be some left in the bottom of the tank however, as the flapper valve is not on the floor of the tank.

Check for a broken toilet flush handle. When the tank is empty, the flapper falls back down into the valve seat, sealing the opening and allowing water to refill the tank. Do both sides hand tight.

Fix the toilet bolts with a wrench. Take it off the top of the toilet and set it aside. It should lift the small arm, which will pull the chain, which then lifts the rubber flapper and flushing the toilet.
